Our History
50 Years of Footy
1970s
The Pig Breeders
Local surfers, fishermen and tradies play shirts vs skins footy on the Dunsborough Primary School oval when the wind's onshore. Kegs on the boundary line. The Pig Breeders are born.
1983
The Mulies Are Founded
Craig & Stewie Bettenay, Andy Jones and Drew Brentwhite kick a footy in the Yallingup car park and challenge the Margaret River surfers. First game played barefoot in the rain. Ron Ellis names the club. The Onshore Cup begins.
1984
Onshore Cup Expands
Augusta Abalones join to form a three-team comp. The Mulies buy their own blue & white jumpers, North Melbourne's design. Double-decker bus trips to Augusta with kegs on the top deck become legendary.
1987
First Premiership
The Mulies thrash the previously undefeated Augusta Abalones by 74 points in the grand final. Joe Neal wins the Brown-Eye medal. The two-year Abalone reign is over.
1993
Dominant Season
Phil Wray coaches the Mulies to a grand final win in a canter. Stewie Corbett, Clint Kelly and the boys deliver the club's strongest era yet.
1996
The Dunsborough Sharks Are Born
The Dunsborough Sharks Football Club is officially established, bringing together the town's football community under one banner. The Sharks identity is born.
~1997
A Home Ground at Last
The Dunsborough Playing Fields are completed. After years of training on the Primary School oval and playing home games in Busselton, football in Dunsborough finally has a home.
2000s
The Ducks Arrive
The Dunsborough Ducks masters team is formed. A famous 'Mulies vs Ducks' debate erupts in the local paper and on ABC Radio. Two teams, one town, plenty of banter.
TBC
Junior Sharks Join the BDJFA
Junior Sharks teams enter the Busselton Junior District Football Association. The pathway from Auskick through to competitive junior football begins to take shape.
2022
Entering the SWFL
On 28 October 2021, the Sharks are admitted to the South West Football League with a 7-3 vote. Colts, Reserves and Women's teams take the field in 2022. The League side follows in 2023.
2026
Largest Club in WA
26 teams from Auskick to Masters. 737 playing members. The largest regional club in WA and 3rd largest in the state. New fence around the main oval. The Sharks, the Mulies and the Ducks, all under one roof.
